Jungli Jaigad is an offbeat fort situated near Koynanagar in Satara District. It is not be confused with Jaigad Fort, a coastal fort located in Ratnagiri District. Nestled in a dense forest within the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary, the Jungli Jaigad Fort makes for one of the most incredible jungle treks in Maharashtra.
Jungli Jaigad Fort is a massive stone structure located at an elevation of about 2,975 feet above sea level. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach this fort from Pune. To enter this forest, you need to take permission of the forest department because this fort is located inside the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary, which a part of the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve.
Once you enter the forest, you will be amazed by the dense foliage and may even encounter wild animals and different varieties of birds and flora. After a refreshing hike of about 2 to 3 hours, through the beautiful forest, you will finally reach the Jungli Jaigad Fort. The top of this fort offers the most spectacular views of the Koyna Dam and backwaters.
