Info
Salota Fort is a hill fort situated in the Baglan region of Nashik. The fort is located on the hill adjacent to Salher Fort. Most trekkers plan a joint trek to Salota and Salher.
There aren’t many historical records about Salota Fort. It has always been mentioned in context of Salher Fort. The fort acted as an additional protective barrier blocking the enemies’ way to Salher.
The trek to Salota Fort starts at the base village of Waghambe. The forts lie on adjacent hills and a col between the two mountains connects the forts. From the col, take the route leading to Salota Fort. The ascend is quite steep and you will have to climb over big rock cut steps. Cautiously climb over these to reach the top. The entire trek takes about 2 hours.
Along the way, you will cross three entryways, all of which are in good condition. There are two water tanks situated near the first entrance. Another water tank is situated near the last entryway. To reach the topmost part of the fort, you will have to pass through another doorway. The top of Salota Fort is quite bare and you won’t find any remnants or ruins here.
However, the stunning views from the top of Salhota Fort just take your breath away. From the top, sit back and enjoy the extraordinary scene of the deep valleys, the picturesque Baglan region and the mighty Salher fort standing proud in the distance. These astounding views are truly worth the efforts taken to reach this fort.
Before ascending Salota, you may keep your bags at the col and only carry the essentials. After descending from Salota, you may take your backpacks and proceed to climb the Salher Fort. A local guide from the base village can be hired to accompany you on the trek. There aren’t any lodging facilities in Waghambe, so may stay overnight in the caves situated atop Salher Fort.
