Amba Ghat

Amba Ghat, acting as a gateway to the Konkan, is located on NH204 66kms from Kolhapur amidst the Sahyadri range. At a height of 2000 feet above sea level, it is a place truly blessed by nature. Surrounded by dense rainforests, it offers a picturesque and soothing climate all round the year.  Free from tourist traffic, it has been awarded ‘World Heritage Status’ recently. Not just the natural beauty, Amba Ghat is soaked in history of Shivaji Maharaj. His forts Panhala and Vishalgad are closely located. Also, Pawankhind(20km) where his great soldier Baji Prabhu Deshpande laid his life for Shivaji is a must visit.

Of recent, Amba Ghat has become a popular destination for paragliding. For nature centric fellows and bird watchers, a jeep safari can also be arranged around the Vishalgad fort and Bison Wildlife Sanctuary.

A trip to Amba Ghat can either be a one day driving trip or an extended one if one wishes to visit the nearby temple of Amba, Marleshwar, Ganpatipule or Ratnagiri. If visiting in January or February, don’t forget to eat the famous cashews!

A few comfortable hotels are available in Amba village or Shahuwadi village.  The Hornbill Jungle Resort and Amba resort are the best here.
