Info
The forts of Salher and Salota are situated in Nashik District’s Selbari Mountain Range and make for enthralling trekking spots. Salher Fort is the highest fort located in the Sahyadri Mountains. Set at an elevation of 5141 feet above sea level, the Salher Mountain Peak is the second highest peak in Maharashtra after Kalsubai and the 32nd highest peak located in the Western Ghats. Salota Fort is located on the hill adjacent to Salher Fort. Most trekkers plan a joint trek to Salota and Salher.
From Pune, one can reach the base village of the forts by buses. There are two routes trek leading up to Salher Fort, one begins at the base village of Waghambe and another starts at Salherwadi village. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete the trek via the Salherwadi route. The trek is long but quite simple.
From Salher, there is a ridge which extends between Salher and Salota. The ridge lies halfway down from the top of Salher Fort. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to reach Salota from this ridge. Alternatively, one can climb the Salota Fort first from Waghambe village and then proceed to Salher Fort top via the ridge.
The challenging yet exciting Salher-Salota Trek climb enthrals each trekker with its untouched beauty and rustic charm.
Make sure to carry sufficient water for this trek as there are no potable water or toilet facilities at the base village or atop the fort.
