Grishneshwar Temple

Embark on a spiritual journey as you visit the Grishneshwar Temple, the twelfth Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva, in Aurangabad. The pilgrimage site is popular among Shiva devotees and a must-visit to seek the blessings of the Lord.

Located close to Ajanta and Ellora Caves, the temple is exquisitely sculpted and was built under the patronage of Queen Ahilyabai Holkar. The temple’s architecture resembles the temples of the South and has been constructed using red rocks. The hall contains around 24 pillars, which depict various stories of Lord Shiva. Apart from which, you can also revel in the carvings of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu within the premises.

The rich legend of the temple attracts many devout devotees. To experience a soulful darshan with fewer crowds, travelers could plan a visit early morning before 10 am. Around the temple, there are plenty of stalls to get offerings for the Lord, and also get food and water.

As per the traditions of the temple, men need to enter the sanctum sanctorum bare-chested. Also, remember that you cannot carry your phones and cameras inside the temple, and you can avail paid lockers facility to deposit them.

You can reach the temple by bus, cab, or drive your car. The location can be visited throughout the year. However, the summer months can be stifling hot and you may choose to visit during winter when the climate is milder. The monsoon months (June to September) are also good to visit the temple. And for devotees, who wish to visit during the Mahashivratri in its full glory, can plan to visit between February and March. The temple is a place where travelers can experience serenity and peace!
