Location: Near Ratnagiri
One of the most popular destinations in Konkan, Ganpatipule is famous for its wonderful temples, pristine beaches and delicious Konkani cuisine.
Info
Ganpatipule is a small beach town located South of Chiplun in the Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra. It is an ideal place not only for beach lovers and pilgrims but also for those in search of peace and solitude.
The town is named Ganpatipule after a 400-hundred-year-old Ganpati image is said to have sprung from the soil. Unlike in other temples, the “Swayambhu” idol in Ganpatipule faces the West to guard the western gates and is hence known as the “Pashchim Dhwandadevata.”
The pretty temple by the beach is located at the foot of a hill and devotees often take pradakshina of the hill as a mark of respect.
Situated at a distance of 331 kms from Pune the shortest way to reach Ganpatipule is by taking NH-17 which makes for a truly picturesque drive.
Ratnagiri is the nearest major city that is connected to the railways.
