A popular monsoon weekend hotspot, packed with plenty of fun moments - Bhushi Dam in Lonavala is the place to be with friends and family. This tourist destination is ideal for one-day picnicking, splashing around in water, and sightseeing local tourist spots.
Info
Bhushi Dam located in Lonavala is a popular monsoon weekend hotspot around Pune. If you love splashing water and are not averse to crowded spots, then this one is definitely for you. This tourist destination can get packed especially during monsoon, but you will have a fun-time, so get ready and enjoy the weekend at Bhushi dam with friends!
The dam courses back to late 1860s where it was built for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway as a wellspring of water. The masonry dam on the Indrayani River served as a water body for their steam engines. Cast-press funnels carried water from the dam to supply it to Lonavala, Khandala, and the switching station of the railroads.
Located on I.N.S Shivaji Road, the dam is just a few kilometres away from Lonavala Railway Station. It is quite easily accessible from both Pune and Mumbai. You can plan to hire a cab or drive down on your own. And it isn’t difficult to park around, as there is paid parking available. You will not need to pay any entry fee.
Undoubtedly, the best time to visit is during monsoon, during July and mid-August when the dam is full of water. You’d also love it during winter. The first showers bring the whole valley alive, and you can witness the flowing waters of Bhushi Dam over a progression of steps. The warm sunshine in the backdrop of scenic hills and rocky terrain make this a good picnic spot. However, due to the erratic stream of water, swimming is confined during the rainstorm months. While planning to reach the destination, you may prefer reaching by morning or afternoon.
Safety tips
- Always remember to do a quick weather check before leaving for the dam.
- Avoid rash driving and park cars in designated areas.
- Don footwear with good grips.
- Avoid wearing ornaments, which could slip or fall while you are on the steps of the dam.
- Travellers who love climbing nearby hills should be cautious as there are chances of landslides and loose soil, especially with a downpour.
Have a grand time during this monsoon weekend at Bhushi Dam. Always remember to exercise caution with heavy downpour – stay safe and have fun!
