Alang, Madan and Kulang are three forts situated in the Kalsubai Range of the Western Ghats. Each of the three forts lies at an elevation of more than 4,800 feet above sea level. The Alang Madan Kulang trek is considered to be one of most difficult treks in Maharashtra, involving a mix of rock climbing, rappelling, steep climbs and strenuous walks.
The three forts are located in Nashik District. One can take a bus or train to Nashik and then proceed to the base village of Ambewadi. The trek usually starts with Alang Fort or Alangad. From Alang Fort, one can proceed to climb up Kulanggad and later, Madangad.
The Kulang Trek is said to be the most difficult of the three as there are rocky patches throughout the climb. It takes about 6 hours to reach Kulang Fort from the base village of Kulangwadi. The Madangad Trek is also technically difficult and involves rock-climbing.
This tough trek is suitable for experienced trekkers and must be undertaken under the guidance of experts. In addition, this 3 -day trek requires a high level of endurance, patience and stamina. Nonetheless, this difficult but exciting trek continues to attract thousands of trekkers every year, who dream of conquering this formidable trio of forts.
