Chandika Devi Mandir is one of the major religious attractions in Konkan. Located in Dabhol near Dapoli, the temple trip to seek the blessings of Goddess Chandika makes an ideal family getaway.

One of the most renowned temples in Dabhol is Chandika Devi Mandir (temple of Goddess Chandika) situated around 28 km from Dapoli. For those seeking to visit a sacred place and take blessings of the Goddess, this temple is a must-visit.

Chandika Devi Mandir is one of the major religious attractions in Konkan. The idol of the Goddess is believed to have formed naturally on its own (Swayambhu – self-made). The deity’s inner sanctum is underground in a natural cave. And, to reach the deity, devotees would have to pass through a low and darkened passage. Only oil lamps are permitted in the temple, which adds to the aura of the temple. The idol is 3 feet tall and is coated with a traditional vermilion orange-red cosmetic powder (Shendur).

During Navaratri (major Hindu festival), pilgrims throng the temple to seek the blessings of the deity. There is also a hawan (sacred Hindu ritual) conducted every year on Ashtami during Navaratri. This temple is very ancient and also has a history that it used to be frequently visited by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The temple has mango trees outside and a live spring of freshwater. And the destination spells of peace and serenity.

You can either hire a cab or drive your car. The temple is situated within 1 km from Dapoli – Dabhol main road. You will need to drive for another 3-4 km from Dabhol port to reach the temple.

The temple is ideal for a family getaway, where kids get up close with the history of the temple. They will enjoy the cave structure. And if you are travelling during summers, then you can enjoy the opportunity to savour some good quality mangoes just outside the temple.
