Historic Panhalagad to Vishalgad Trek

Every history buff and admirer of the great Maratha Empire must embark on the Panhalagad to Vishalgad Trek at least once in their lifetime. However, this trek is quite difficult and must be done under the guidance of expert trekkers. Previous trekking experience and physical fitness is a must for this trek.

The Panhalagad-Pawankhind-Vishalgad trek route is associated with an important incident from the glorious life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had escaped from Panhala Fort with his army of just 600 Mavalas when it was under the siege of Siddi Johar. He proceeded to Vishalgad in heavy rain with the enemies chasing him. However, his brave and loyal sardar Baji Prabhu managed to stop the Siddi army at the Ghodkhind, a col between Panhalagad and Vishalagad. Baji Prabu kept fighting the troops till he heard the canon fire go off in the distance, an indication of Shivaji Maharaj reaching Vishalgad safely. Unfortunately, Baji Prabhu and Shiva Kashid, another brave soldier became martyrs in this battle.

This trek route is reminiscent of not only the great warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj but of all the brave soldiers who fought valiantly to defend Maratha honour. Embark on this trek to pay homage to these courageous souls. Also take in the sheer landscape of this historic path.
