Difficulty Level: Hard
The Prabalgad to Kalvantin Durg Trek is a truly adventurous and offbeat trek, suitable for those seeking to explore their boundaries.
Info
Prabalgad is a historic fort located between Matheran and Panvel in Maharashtra’s Raigad District. The fort stands at a height of 2300 feet above sea level. The steep Kalavantin Durg Fort, often called the world’s most dangerous fort is situated right next to Prabalgad. The Prabalgad to Kalvantin Durg is a truly adventurous trek.
It takes about 2 to 3 hours to reach Prabalgad from Pune. You can take a train or a bus from Pune to Panvel. From Panvel, you can take a shared auto or local bus to reach Thakurwadi, the base village of Prabalgad. This trek is divided into two phases, i.e. from ‘Thakurwadi to Prabal Machi’ and from ‘Prabal Machi to the top of Prabalgad’. The trek can be completed in 2 to 3 hours depending on the fitness level of trekkers.
Kalavantin Durg lies to the north of Prabalgad. At Prabal Machi there are two routes, one leading to Prabalgad and another leading to Kalavantin Durg. Climbing Kalavantin Durg is highly dangerous as it a steep pinnacle with an open-to-sky rock-cut staircase without railings or support. It is advisable that the trek to reach the top of Kalavantin Durg must be undertaken by only by qualified and greatly experienced trekkers.
