The sacred Audumbar village is known for the shrine of Lord Dattatreya built in the honour of the 13th century Saint Shri Narasimha Saraswati, considered to be the second avatar of Lord Dattatreya. Shri Narasimha Saraswati is said to have lived in Audumbar during the four holy months of Chaturmas and hence, the town is a significant religious place.
Shreekshetra Audumbar is an immensely picturesque place with a peaceful and positive atmosphere. The temple of Lord Dattatreya is situated by the banks of Krishna River. Devootes can take ‘Nija Roop Darshan’ (without ornaments and decoration) of the ‘Padukas’ in the morning before 7 am. The temple priests perform a ‘Rudrabhishek’ between 7.00 am and 8.00 am, after which the ‘Padukas’ are then covered with a silver dome and decorated with ‘Poorna Alankar’ (flowers, decoration). Sacred Pujas and artis are performed by the priests in the morning, afternoon and evening.
